Event of the Month: Not just the Full Moon! Rhythm & Sands Festival, Koh Phangan, Thailand

Wednesday 1st August 2012, 4pm ‘til sunrise

If you think the scene on world-renowned party island, Koh Phangan, is all about the Full Moon Party, think again!

Those awesome people who brought us Rhythm & Vines and Rhythm & Alps of New Zealand, now in their 10th year of mega success, have extended their arms into Thailand bringing with them the international dance scene and some of the planet’s biggest acts!

With a monthly festival under the sun and stars, the stereotype of the island is changing from minimal psy-trance to a unique blend of fresh new music styles and DJs!

Set in a secluded yet accessible beach venue amidst the palms of Baan Tai, three days before the full moon party, R&S brings you the next level of the Thai Beach Party Experience…

R&S girlsThe International Dance Scene has landed on Koh Phangan!

A daytime event in the sunshine going through to a full night-time festival until sun-up with a huge tropical pool as the centre point of the dance floor, alongside white sandy beaches and views of surrounding islands.

There are three different music areas:

  • The Main Stage with multiple genres, world class international DJs, and incredible sounds and lighting.
  • The Electronic Lounge, your own nightclub on the beach, Liquid, House, Trance, DnB to Tech, sand dance floors and amazing cocktails.
  • The JAM Chill Out Park, Koh Phangan’s premier live music show! A bustling live music area with international food and beverage, local talent, Thai presentation and open mic sessions.

And as if this paradise doesn’t already excite you enough, hold tight to your shades as you check out this impressive line up!

In its fourth month, August is set to be the biggest so far with headlining Drum n Bass DJ & Producer Mickey Finn; British and prominent International Club DJ Brandon Block; local legend Graham Gold; alongside local Phangan DJs such as DJs Andy Newman, Absolud and Darragh Casey and live entertainment including Koh Phangan’s very own ‘The Jam’ appearing live!

One of the original rave scene Hardcore and Jungle pioneers and still leading the way today, Micky Finn has been smashing it up on the rave scene since the days of ’87 and has blown the roof off more buildings than you can count. Apart from DJ-ing extensively, he’s best known for appearing on tracks “Some Justice” and “Bass Shake” as “featured” artist of Urban Shakedown. Along with running his own labels Finn People Productions and its sister label Finn S, he also co-founded label Urban Takeover.

Brandon Block has carried a legendary status tag ever since being one the first residents on the Space terrace, Ibiza. His residency was arguably one of the initial driving forces behind the club’s worldwide notoriety as the place to party. As well as starting various clubs in the early 90’s in the UK, his DJ-ing has also encompassed being one of the first DJ’s in Dubai holding residencies in no fewer than four Dubai nightclubs. Infamous for his party spirit and his ability to capture that spirit in his sets, Brandon brings raw energy to the dance-floor. With a wealth of musical experience and a staunch champion of the funkier end of house, his continued success means Brandon Block is still one of the UK’s most sought after DJs.

this charge get in big but not big people, bit boring, many resort same not so ‘secluded’ like 10 resort right next door, bad food, ok not new music, bad security..phangan need less party not more party why they make this to make money, thai peoples not get this moneys. why they make

  2. BigbossKPG says:

went to this 2 months ago and what a farce, no security, only one stage,no water sports, 500 bht to get in, the dj line up was full of local dj’s and a few unknown internationals, i could have seen them for free around the island, seems only these guys play everywhere there for free.

I complained to one of the promoters and asked for a refund and was told to like it or lump it.

I actually contacted the company in New Zealand to complain about this, hailing from Auckland myself and was told it was nothing to do with them and someone was using there name without permission.

SEA Backpackers, I would do some research before you promote an event that has such a bad reputation and makes so many false statements,

    Amazing Thailand

  3. Big Dog says:

Similar to big boss, I think it is funny what they are trying to do. These headliners play on my mates boat party for free, just has beens who still trying to live the glory. No Thai acts and this is Thailand.

Every dj you can see for free in other venues, I was at the “Orbital” event, Big Orbital fan and travelled all the way from Hua Hin to get a pre recorded load of cods wallop, not happy over here.

It is as if R&S think we were born at night, most of us were but not last night.

It would be passable if free entry but 500 baht is a joke and i agree Backpacker magazine you should not support such pathetic events.

I have been in Thailand 6 months and have only heard good things about this event … I heard some beats on the beach yesterday and popped in as they were setting up and it looks awesome!! I’m personally really excited about tomorrow … it looks like a real summer festival with a big stage on the beach and swimming pool, live stage at the back and the main stage looks immense … You can’t see Micky Finn or Brandon Block for free anywhere and where else will you see all the other international DJs in one place over 12 hours with a festival atmosphere and holiday beach vibe … can’t wait !!

  5. Dave84 says:

Excited for party starting tomorrow night!!
RHYTHM & SANDS on 1st, perfect warm up to Full Moon on 4th!
    Who is gonna be there??
EVENTS LOOKS AWESOME! They have huge swimming pool, fire dancers and firework show… also gonna take part in beach volleyball before the drinks kick in!!
10 quid is amazing price compared to what you’d pay in Ibiza or anywhere else in Europe to see these DJ’s and for awesome beach party. SEE YOU THERE!!
    I love Koh Phangan!! 🙂

  6. mamombx says:

Molly Owen shut up. You see 99% of act for free elsewhere on same island every week. It is scam to pay for holiday of one of named DJ! They stolen the logo! this party is not on lonely beach it is sandwich of many resort. listen big dog and big bossKPG, local people only go this place when give free ticket. Bad light is danger of swimming pool when is night and cannot see other island when is dark…bad idea to start a party in the day and everybody very drunk to go home safe if this happen. last time nobody go to this party. They make story but is not true story. “amazing price compared to what you’d pay in Ibiza or anywhere else in Europe” Not when all other party is free, but this not europe this thailand and they pay staff not much and keep big for falang -_-

  7. john says:

wow Mamombx … something up your arse. It’s obvious you’ve got some personal beef. I went to this in February and it was great. Nothing better for you to do than slag people off on a website.

    • john says:

Cudos to the organizers who put great efforts to try to make some good entertainment for us travelers!

      • this party sucks says:

don’t listen to John maybe he paid 500baht and think’s it’s okies to insult people he doesn’t know using expletives to protect his investment…l hope he talks to one of the locals like that on his way home and gets taught a lesson…Meantime I’m going to contact the original R&S who’s party brand is being faked for profit…

  8. OK guys, keep it nice, please. No swearing, no arguing, and no telling anyone to “shut up” – no need to get personal – otherwise I’ll have to delete comments and I don’t want to have to do that. Everyone here is entitled to voice their honest opinions about the event. Thanks for your views, all.

  9. mamombx says:

u edit my reply so why u no edit john’s personal attack on me?

    • john says:

I can’t believe (mamombx) you have the nerve to talk about the lack of safety or the cost of entry for this party. Have you ever heard about the full moon party? HAHA!

“Envy according to the aspect of its object is contrary to charity, whence the soul derives its spiritual life… Charity rejoices in our neighbor’s good, while envy grieves over it.”

  10. Nobody has edited anything. Yet. Standard internet forum rules apply.

  11. mamombx says:

do they so he allowed to make anal references? please remove his personal attack on me thanks…i just review party and tell that person to shut up as they lying about being able to see DJs for free when u can…

  12. I say again: we haven’t edited anything. “awaiting moderation” means we check it before it’s posted, that’s all. I won’t be discussing this with you any further, thanks.

  13. Molly Owen says:

Sorry Mamombx but I am really excited about this event and I am happy to pay for it and get a free drink … I take offence in being told to shut up … Thanks John! What I do with my money is my decision. I have seen Darragh Casey, Absolud, Graham Gold, Andy Newman and Brandon Block before but never in the same place and in such a great location. I think people have a right to go to what they want and if you go to Full Moon Party people are drunk by swimming pools and the sea – that’s their decision too.
