About the Trek
The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is world famous for its spectacular and varied scenery. The trekking route leads us through an extraordinary variety of ecosystems because of the unique combination of depths and height. This is what we like to call “Nepalese flat” (lots of ups and downs!) Not only will you come across beautiful flora and fauna along this route, you will also get acquainted with the diverse ethnic groups and their cultures such as Gurung, Magar, Thakali.
The Annapurna Sanctuary
The Annapurna Sanctuary is a high glacial basin located in the north of the lakeside city of Pokhara. Surrounded by the snowy Himalayan Giants of the Annapurna range, peaks above the 7,000-meter mark, it receives only 7 hours sunlight a day in the summer season. The Annapurna Sanctuary was not open for foreign visitors until 1956 and is considered sacred by both Hindus and Buddhists, believed to be the abode of their deities.
Annapurna Mountain Range
A dense tropical forest of bamboo and rhododendron cover the south-facing slopes and the north facing slopes are covered by rain shadow. From the basin, we can observe spectacular mountain views of Machhapuchhare (6,993 m), Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Lamjung Himal (6,983 m), Annapurna I (8,091 m), Annapurna III (7,555m), Annapurna South (7,219m) and Himchuli (7,246m).
