The Dive Sites: Nusa Penida & Manta Point
Nusa Penida is the largest of three islands off Bali (Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Ceningan).
Located on the south side of Bali’s eastern point, Nusa Penida has startlingly clear water, gorgeous corals and prolific fish, occasional turtles, reef sharks and in July to November Mola-Mola (the weird and wonderful sunfish!).
Manta Point has an amazing limestone cliff wall, the swell can be extraordinary but sometimes making entry is impossible by mid-morning. There is a sandy bottom at 12-18m.
The water comes in from the ocean so can be quite cold (22-26 degrees). Manta Point is the area where the pelagic fish come in to eat so while diving you may see the manta ray, tuna, tiger mackerel as well other pelagics.
Diving in Crystal Bay you will see a white sand base covered with anemones and soft corals as well some marine life like see angelfish, sweetlips, giant frogfish and many Moorish idols.
If we follow the north side of the bay around we arrive at a Bat Cave. Depending on conditions, you can enter from underwater and surface inside the cave (which is open to the sky) where bats sleep overhead.
Sometimes two small reef sharks can be in the cave, but they will leave when you arrive. If you continue along the wall 20-24m the hard corals provide homes for a lot of lobsters.
NOTE: There needs to be a minimum of 2 people for this dive trip to run. If you are a solo traveller and your dates are flexible, please message us to find out if there is another group that you can join that week.
