The Dive Sites: Blue Lagoon & Jepun
Beautiful Amuk Bay is 6 kilometres across and located on the south side of Bali’s eastern point, with Padangbai to the south and Candidasa to the north.
Just north of Padangbai you will discover Blue Lagoon – an absolute treasure trove of marine life!
This a small bay with a steep white sand beach, located just northeast of Padangbai. Due to the steepness of the beach, there are often waves here, therefore, we take a 5-min boat ride from Padangbai.
The white sand bottom, which slopes gradually to 22m, has scattered rocks, soft corals and a huge area of staghorn coral. The fish life here is amazing! Very often, we spot a large Napoleon Wrasse here, and the area is also home to several kinds of reef shark, rays, stonefish, moray and blue ribbon eels, cuttlefish, nudibranch, squid and octopus, leaf scorpion fish in every hue and stargazers and frogfish.
Although the diving at Blue Lagoon is easy and can be experienced by those who have never dived before, even if you are an experienced diver and/or underwater photographer, you will surely thoroughly enjoy this beautiful dive site!
There is sometimes a little surge and a mild current but the bay is fairly protected with visibility at 15-20m. There is a good variety of sweetlips, angelfish and surgeonfish.
Jepun dive site is an extension of Blue Lagoon and has a white sandy bottom. An area of artificial reef has been created here and we regularly sight frogfish here. Jepun also yields Rhinopias, Leaf scorpionfish, Solar-powered nudibranch, sea moths, ghost pipefish, flamboyant cuttlefish, cockatoo waspfish, shrimps, crabs, thorny seahorse… and much more!
NOTE: There needs to be a minimum of 2 people for this dive trip to run. If you are a solo traveller and your dates are flexible, please message us to find out if there is another group that you can join that week.
