Day 3: Arrival in Bagan
Arriving in Bagan in the early morning, you’ll drop your bags at the guesthouse and jump straight into a guided tour to explore the incredible Bagan Archaeological Zone, a temple lover’s dream destination with more than 3,000 temples. The afternoon is free for you to relax or carry on exploring.
Inclusions: Half day Bagan temple tour.
Day 4: Free day in Bagan
In such a massive location, you need a full free day to spend really discovering the hidden wonders of the Bagan temple complex. Hiring a bicycle or electric scooter is recommended so you can see more of the surrounding area that you didn’t see on your guided tour. Also, don’t miss out on one of the world’s most spectacular sunrises or sunsets over this magnificent ancient capital.
Day 5: Bagan to Kalaw
Depart early to travel from the open plains of Bagan to the cooler climate of the quaint town of Kalaw in the picturesque mountains of the Shan Plateau. You’ll immediately notice a difference in this area with stronger influences from neighbouring China, Laos and Thailand.
Day 6: Kalaw to Village Stay (2 Day Trek)
Set out on a guided overnight trek into the Shan hills, where your destination is a remote hill-tribe village. You’ll spend the afternoon engaging with your hosts and participating in whichever seasonal activities and work are happening for that time of year. (Non-trekking option also available.)
Inclusions: Overnight trek and remote village stay with accommodation in a local family home
Day 7: Village Stay to Inle Lake (2 Day Trek)
Expect to wake up early this morning for a traditional breakfast with your village hosts before setting out to continue trekking through the rural countryside to reach the shores of tranquil Inle Lake. After your two days of trekking, you’ll be happy to put your feet up and relax in the charming lakeside village of Nyuang Shwe.
Day 8: Free day in Inle Lake
This morning, you’ll hop into a long tail boat to spend half a day powering through the towering reeds of the upper lake delta on a tour to see floating farms, the daily activities of the local Intha fishermen, a lotus weaving centre, and even a stilt monastery. With the tour finishing by mid-afternoon, there is time for an optional visit to the nearby Red Mountain Winery.
Inclusions: Half day longtail boat tour of Inle Lake.
Day 9: Inle Lake to Mandalay (Express Day)
Take one last look at the lake before boarding the bus bound for Mandalay. While there are stops en-route to stretch your legs, today is all about reaching Mandalay by late afternoon so there is time to wander around this incredible hub of Burmese culture and even catch the sunset over the rolling Sagaing Hills.
Day 10: Free day in Mandalay
Start your free day in Mandalay with a city tour that covers the highlights, including the magnificent former Royal Palace, Shewnandaw Kyuang monastery, Kuthodaw Pagoda, and a gold pounders’ workshop.
