Drone Laws In Cambodia – Can I Fly A Drone In Cambodia?

Drone laws in Cambodia are relatively simple, you can fly your drone in most places without a permit. However, in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap (including Angkor Wat), you need to get permission from the Civil Aviation Authority which can cost up to $1000USD!

Drones are legal in Cambodia – which is a relief because when a country is this beautiful, it’s almost rude not to see it from above!  

But beware, there are some exceptions. Over the years, multiple tourists have been arrested in Cambodia for flying their drones over the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh. Don’t be one of them!

Yes, you can fly a drone in Cambodia. Be careful as some locations require a permit.

How Much Does It Cost To Register A Drone In Cambodia?

While not necessary for the whole country, you will need a permit to fly your drone around Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Angkor Wat. This can cost up to $1000USD!

When Should I Register A Drone for Cambodia?

You don’t need to register your drone in Cambodia unless you plan to fly in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap or Angkor Wat. 

There is no official guidance on when you should apply for a permit if you plan to fly your drone in one of the aforementioned locations. We recommend applying at least 30 days before your intended flight.

Where Can I Fly a Drone in Cambodia?

Without a permit, you can fly anywhere in Cambodia except:

  • In Phnom Penh
  • In Siem Reap
  • At Angkor Wat
  • Around temples and other historical sites
  • Within 5km of airports, military bases and government buildings

If you want to fly in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap or Angkor Wat, you’ll need a permit. 

Is There a Maximum Altitude for Drones in Cambodia?

There is no official maximum altitude for flying a drone in Cambodia. However, we recommend staying below 120 metres to be safe.
