Location:
Our dive school is located in a small fisherman village on the beautiful island of Redang, Peninsular Malaysia, with its crystal clear waters and white sandy beaches. Redang Island (Pulau Redang), part of a Marine National Park, is blessed with many SCUBA diving sites from dives straight off the beach to boat dives and challenging deep dives for more advanced divers. You will see an abundance of colourful hard and soft coral gardens and many tropical fish. The island is also an important place for turtle conservation and you can swim alongside these lovely creatures as you dive or snorkel with us. Redang is one of the most affordable places to dive in Southeast Asia. We also offer a budget homestay experience when you dive so you can experience the local life of a fishing village in this Malaysia.
Dive Sites in Redang:
Redang Island forms part of the ‘coral triangle’ (which covers Philippines, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea). It is an area that is famous for having the highest number of marine creatures in the world. This incredible biodiversity makes Redang Island the best place to dive in Peninsular Malaysia and one of the best dive spots in Southeast Asia. There are many dive sites for beginners or the more advanced that are easily accessible by speedboat from the island.
The Best Time To Visit Redang Island?
Ferries and resorts on the island are closed from October – late February due to the northeastern monsoon which hits Redang Island and the rest of the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The seas at this time are very rough with strong winds and unsuitable conditions for diving. The best time to visit Redang is March-April because this is the period when the visibility in the ocean is best (as much as 40 metres!).

Hi, I’m Nikki. I started South East Asia Backpacker in 2008 as a print magazine. My vision was to create a travel diary for everyone – a place for all travellers to share their experiences. Further down the line, I saw the opportunity to guide backpackers towards the kind of experiences that I’d treasured myself in the region. Today, there is so much choice, but there are a lot of poor-quality tours and companies that offer mediocre experiences with little care for the environment. I wanted to create a handpicked selection of the best tried and tested activities to help backpackers avoid scams and unwanted experiences.
