I’d recommend the On On Hotel in Phuket Town, which has a hostel and private hotel rooms. It’s an old shophouse that was a super-cheap dive for many years before they did a big reno. Fun fact: it appeared in the film as the crappy Khao San Rd hotel Leonardo Di Caprio stayed in for ‘The Beach’ movie.
