The Dives Sites:
Tulamben is located in the richest marine biogeographic zone: the Indo-Pacific, famous for the black volcanic sand and the 120m USAT Liberty Shipwreck, is quite rightly Bali’s most popular diving location. This is also the place where you are most likely to see internationally-recognised underwater photographers and journalists.
The bay has very plankton-rich waters due to the Indonesian throughflow. With the different physical environments and all the location aspects, Tulamben is considered an incredible diverse underwater ecosystem.
USAT Liberty Shipwreck
The 120m USAT Liberty Shipwreck lies 20 metres offshore. The 130-metre long ship slipped off the beach in 1963 after the eruption of nearby Mount Agung. Today, it now lies on a sandy slope that is 5 metres deep at the shallowest part and 130 metres deep at the deepest part. It provides an awesome opportunity for beginner or advanced divers to experience a wreck dive.
The wreck also provides the local sea creatures with a cosy home. On this dive, you will experience an extraordinary density of marine life, from Clown frogfish, Bumphead parrotfish to Leaf Scorpionfish and pygmy seahorses.
Eastwards from the Shipwreck runs a coral garden where you will have the chance to dive into a vast selection of marine life from Thecacera nudibranchs, Harlequin shrimps to frogfish and Ribbon eels in all stages of development. The Coral Garden will also give you the chance to do wonderful shallow dives.
At Wall/Drop-off sponges and Gorgonian sea fans corals (one of 3m) along some reef sharks await you.
NOTE: There needs to be a minimum of 2 people for this dive trip to run. If you are a solo traveller and your dates are flexible, please message us to find out if there is another group that you can join that week.
