This food tour around Malaysia’s capital has been specifically designed for those who want to eat like a local. In the company of your expert guide, you will be taken around the winding streets of Kuala Lumpur and visit the most delicious restaurants, the likes of which travellers rarely find on their own!
This walking tour is physically achievable for most as the terrain is generally flat and there will be plenty of rest (that’s code for food!) stops along the way.
This evening small-group tour will introduce you to popular Malaysian cuisine and there will be a grand total of 13-14 tastings over the course of the four-hour foodie tour.
As well as eating your way through local restaurant food, you will also visit some of KL’s best wet markets to learn about the Malaysian produce and the history of this type of cuisine.
Some examples of foods you might try include: rendang, satay chicken skewers, cendol durian and banana-leaf wrapped grilled mackerel. Did somebody say yum?!
***We don’t recommend eating before this tour. You will need all the room you can get for this taste of Malaysia!***

Today, I run this website with my partner, Dave, from Spain, where we live with our two young daughters, Eve and baby Rose. All of the bookable activities that you find on this website have been vetted by a member of our team and we have a friendly relationship with the operator. There are real humans behind South East Asia Backpacker and we are passionate about sustainable travel and tourism in Southeast Asia.
We’re committed to helping travellers at every stage of the journey and are happy to answer your questions pre, during and post travels. We understand that plans can change which is why we offer a full refund on the deposit up to 72 hours before the start of your trip, no questions asked. What is the group size?
This varies depending on when you book. There is a maximum of 8 guests and a minimum requirement of two people for the group to run.
How many dishes do we taste?
There will be 13-14 tastings throughout the evening.
Are drinks provided?
Bottled water and local drinks are included.
What if I have children younger than 3? Can they still come on the tour?
Yes. There is no charge for children under 3. Please let us know of any infants when booking.
What time is the food tour?
The tour begins at 17.30 and finishes around 21.30.

No. Unfortunately, this tour is not suited for vegetarians and vegans.

Please contact us to enquire about any allergy avoidance. We will of course, try to accommodate but please understand that your safety is our main priority. We cannot 100% guarantee that traces of anything won’t be found in dishes, owing to the nature of street food.

The food walking tour leaves from the entrance of the Hilton Garden Inn. It sits on the corner of Jalan Raja Alang and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.
