Half-Day Climbing Course – Ideal For New Climbers!
Climbing Day Begins: 9:30 AM
Return to Adam’s Climbing School: 1:00 PM
This introduction to climbing class will usually take place at ‘Sleeping Wall‘ located 15 minutes from Vang Vieng on the banks of the beautiful Nam Song River. Sleeping Wall has over 31 established beginner to intermediate routes that will challenge any level of climber. The trek to the cliff “the approach” is the easiest in the area and can be managed in flip flops.
The course will begin with instruction on climbing equipment, climbing knots, belay devices and safe belaying techniques and procedures. You will be allowed to belay a lead climber (instructor) who will set up a top rope for you. You will begin with an easy warm-up climb and progress upwards in climbing grade typically completing 4 – 6 climbs of increasing difficulty before returning to Vang Vieng. Your climbing guide will offer instruction and guidance in hand and foot placement (Beta) as needed. This can be extremely helpful to a beginning climber just learning how to read the rock.
Full-Day Climbing Course – Perfect For Beginners!
Climbing Day Begins: 9:30 AM
Return to Adam’s Climbing School: 5:00 PM
This full-day introduction climbing class will usually take place at ‘Sleeping Wall/Secret Canyon‘ or ‘PhaDaeng‘ located 15 and 20 minutes, respectively from Vang Vieng. Sleeping Wall is located next to the Nam Song River and has over 31 established beginner/intermediate routes that will test any level of climber.
PhaDaeng is located east of town heading towards ‘Blue Lagoon‘. This approach is steep and has very sharp rocks, therefore it is better attempted with good hiking boots or trainers. This location receives more sunlight throughout the day which is great for photos but it makes sunscreen a necessity. This site offers a great view of the valley below and very long climbs, up to 25 meters. 15 Intermediate routes are currently available at this site.
The course will begin with instruction on top-rope climbing, belay & climbing techniques, equipment use and safety measures. You will begin with a warm-up climb and progress upwards in climbing grade over the course of the morning. Your climbing guide will offer guidance in hand and foot placement as required. This can help a beginner learn to read rock.
After completing 4 to 6 climbs of increasing difficulty you will take a lunch break with a meal that is included in your tour price. After enjoying a nice meal, the afternoon will be filled with more climbing and additional practice with belay concepts.
2 Day Climbing Course – Great Introduction Overview!
Climbing Day Begins: 9:30 AM
Return to Adam’s Climbing School: 5:00 PM
The introduction class usually takes place at the ‘Sleeping Wall/Secret Canyon‘ or ‘PhaDaeng’ which is around 15-20 minute from Vang Vieng. There are plenty of routes at both of these sites to challenge climbers and the scenery is also some of the best that Vang Vieng has to offer.
Day 1:
Instruction on climbing knots, climbing equipment, belay devices and safe, controlled belaying procedures.
After being given the opportunity to belay your climbing instructor, you will complete 4 to 6 climbs of increasing difficulty. After this, you will have lunch (included in your tour cost). After enjoying a filling meal, the afternoon will be filled with more climbing and additional practice with belay concepts.
Day 2:
You will start the day with instruction on lead climbing. Lead climbing is a more advanced climbing skill where the climber takes the rope and their own equipment up the route to an established anchor. The climber will have the entire day to develop their lead climbing skills to ensure they are comfortable with placing quick draws, clipping the rope and setting anchors and cleaning a route.
3 Day Climbing Course – The Ultimate Introduction!
Climbing Day Begins: 9:30 AM
Return to Adam’s Climbing School: 5:00 PM
Day 1:
Climbers will be given guidance on belay devices and techniques, as well as climbing equipment and knots. You will be given instruction so that you are able to belay an instructor who will set up a top rope for you. After an easy climb, you will continue to be challenged with climbing grades increasing in difficulty.
Instruction will be offered regarding hand and foot placement as needed. Depending on time, you will complete 4-6 climbs before stopping for lunch (included in course price). In the afternoon, you will practice the skills you have acquired that morning.
Day 2:
The day begins with guidance on lead climbing which is a more advanced skill. This involves the climber taking the rope and transporting their own equipment up the route to an anchor. We aim to help climbers become comfortable with leading over the course of the day. By the end of the day, climbers will be comfortable in clipping the rope, placing quick draws, cleaning a route and setting anchors.
Day 3:
By day 3, you and your guide have developed a good rapport and they will have a better overall assessment of your personal skills. This day caters exclusively to the needs of the individual climber. If you have any weaknesses to shore up with lead climbing or if you would like
more practice at an individual climbing element, we will work on those deficiencies or projects.
If the climber possesses advanced lead climbing skills, the instructor will introduce abseiling techniques. It’s up to you! Either way, you will walk away with a wealth of knowledge, all learned in a safe environment (not to mention some amazing memories)!
