More than just a cooking class. This is a cooking tour!
On this tour, we will take you to explore the beautiful countryside just outside of Hoi An, at Cam Thanh Village, about 4 kilometres from the centre of the Ancient City.
The day is jam-packed with lovely local activities…
We will visit a local market
Take a boat trip on the river
Go basket boat sailing
See traditional buffalo cart pulling
Learn how to cook a local meal
Relax with a Vietnamese foot, head and shoulder massage
We have two (half-day) tours each day and you can choose to join either time of day:
Morning tour: 8 am – 1 pm
Afternoon tour: 1 pm – 6 pm
Please note: We need a minimum of 2 guests to operate the tour.
The tour includes:
Pick up and drop off at your hotel (within the Hoi An area)
English-speaking tour guide
Tour of the local market where we’ll learn about Vietnamese herbs and vegetables

Hi, I’m Nikki and I started South East Asia Backpacker in 2008 after my own first solo backpacking trip! My vision was to create a travel diary for everyone, a place for travellers to share their experiences from the road. After backpacking and writing about Southeast Asia for over 10 years, I saw the opportunity to provide backpackers with the kind of experiences that I’d treasured myself in the region!Â
Today, there is so much choice, but there are a lot of poor-quality tours and companies that offer mediocre experiences with little care for the environment. I wanted to create a selection of the best tours and activities to help backpackers avoid scams and dodgy tour companies.
Today, I run this website with my partner, Dave, from Spain, where we live with our energetic two-year-old daughter, Evie. All of the bookable activities that you will find on this website have been vetted by a member of our team and we have a friendly relationship with the operator. There are real humans behind South East Asia Backpacker and we are passionate about sustainable travel and development in Southeast Asia.
We are committed to helping travellers at every stage of the journey and understand that plans can change which is why we offer a full discount on the deposit up to 48 hours before the start of your trip, no questions asked. We offer advice on flights, visas, itineraries, hostels, backpacks, packing and more!
If you have any questions about our business or any of the tours that we provide, feel free to contact me on Whatsapp.

Hello! I really enjoyed this cooking class which brought together different aspects of Vietnam. We started by pick up at hotel, then we were dropped off at Hoi An market to meet host and chef, Be! Be was an amazing chef with great sense of humour ?. She took us to a stall and explained the spices we would be using in the class, I loved this explanation and went back the next day to buy some of the spices she recommended so we can recreate the dish at home. We then went the scenic route to the cooking class, first the boat ride for 30 minutes, then the roundboat for ten minutes, then the cart ride for 5 minutes! We were greeted with a massage which was really good, somewhat surreal but they were so good and it was so nice arrival experience. Then we began the cooking class, awesome to learn about food decoration creating and dishes, we all agreed we would be able to recreate the curry dish at home. Class finish we are dropped off at homestay or convenient point, overall such great hospitality and experience of Vietnamese cuisine and cooking style.
