About My Son Sanctuary:
My Son Sanctuary is an interesting cluster of ruined temples dating from 4th-13th centuries. The temple complex was listed as UNESCO World-Heritage in 1999 and has been compared to Angkor Wat in Cambodia, Bagan in Myanmar, Ayutthaya in Thailand and Borobudur in Java.
Seated in a wide valley between two mountain ranges, the temple complex was built by an ancient Indian Hindu culture known as the Champa Kingdom, that developed in Central Vietnam over 1,500 years ago. The remains that you will find at My Son Sanctuary is what’s left of the spiritual and political capital of the Champa Kingdom.
The temples are dedicated to Hindu Deities such as Shiva, Krishna and Vishnu. The archaeological site is very important for Hinduism as is unique in Vietnam, a country where Mahayana Buddhism is the main religion.
